Kira Massara textile artwork

€6,000.00

Kira Massara

Untitled, 2021

Unique

Cotton, acrylic, oil stick, threads, framed

134,5 x 99,5 cm (framed dimensions)

With her expressive embroidery, Kira Massara (Denmark) makes echoes of fast work of hand and hectic movements in a genre of work otherwise known for an act of slowness, repetition, and precision. She rethinks the way we pursue needle and thread whilst honoring the femininity inevitably linked to needle work.

Her interest in the history of female textile work and the gesture of the working hand began after studying embroidery technics and classic sample work at Central Saint Martins in London. Massara was born and raised in Copenhagen and after spending five years in London and New York, she is now back and working in Copenhagen.

In her work we are all presented with an abstract and intuitive extension of a tradition-rich embroidery history of female community and expression.
